GUYANA: May 2021 now surpasses April 2021 with the most COVID-19 deaths

— Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll is now 376. 

May 28, 2021 – Kaieteur News – With just three more days to month end, May is now officially recorded as the country’s deadliest month, with 77 novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) fatalities recorded thus far.

This figure surpasses that of the 66 deaths that was recorded for last month. Previously, October was reported as the deadliest month with 46 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Not only is the death toll high, but in the month of May too, there has been an increase in deaths on a daily basis, pushing the numbers to three deaths per day.      Continue reading →

Guyanese in New York (NY), USA are elated that Liberty Avenue in Richmond Hill, Queens will officially be co-named ‘Little Guyana Avenue,’ as a recognition for their contributions to the community over the years.

The sign, which will be unveiled on May 29, has been erected at the intersection of Lefferts Boulevard and Liberty Avenue.

TRAVEL: Home porting, the cruise lines, and the Caribbean – By David Jessop

Will the decision by several US cruise lines to home port in the Caribbean this summer become a permanent fixture, or is it just a temporary work around?

The widespread suspicion that it is the latter, was succinctly voiced in one recent online posting on Tribune242’s website in The Bahamas: ‘These cruise people aren’t coming here because we’re such an attractive destination to home port in. Phil Mickelson’s victory over the weekend at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and Tiger Woods’s win at Augusta National in 2019 are such singular, separate accomplishments — different golfers who overcame different obstacles on vastly different golf courses.
