Imagine three sisters. All have similar features and a common history, but one speaks French, one Dutch, and the third English.

That, in a nutshell, is the story of The Three Guianas: French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana. The three countries are located side by side in the northeast corner of South America, all have the Caribbean Sea as a border, and all are part of the Guiana Shield, one of the only four pristine tropical forests remaining in the world. GUYANA: Median household income decreased from $100,000 to $67,000 during pandemic

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its damaging economic impact in Guyana, the median household income has noticeably decreased from G$100,000 to G$67,000. (This is approximately US$500 to US$335 at the exchange rate of 200-1).

This was indicated in a report titled: “Socio-Economic Impact Assessment of COVID-19 on Households in Guyana,” compiled by the United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with the Civil Defence Commission.         Continue reading
