REMINDER: Inaugural Virtual Diaspora Conference – Georgetown – May 22. 2021 @ 9.00 am

The conference will provide a platform for the Government to reaffirm its commitment to Diaspora engagement and to garner feedback from the Diaspora on its plans to engage and involve the Diaspora in Guyana’s development.       

An electronic registration form is available at this link https://www.minfor.gov.gy/virtual-diaspora-conference-2021-registration/which can be accessed on the Ministry’s website.

Due to the limitation of the virtual platform, only the first 1,000 registrants will be allowed into the conference. All other attendees will be able to view the conference on YouTube and Facebook. Provisions will be made for the latter to send in questions to panelists.

The Bible, in Mark 8:36, asks, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” The question is rhetorical, the answer is “nothing.” That warning has not stopped Republican Party leaders.

After Barack Obama won the presidency twice, the party undertook a soul-searching in 2012 which yielded a blueprint for becoming more inclusive. Then came first the 2016 campaign and then the presidency of Donald Trump.

Using social media to promote himself and to spread 30,573 lies and misstatements in four years, according to a Washington Post data base, Trump seized control of a political organization whose history includes fierce and relentless opposition to slavery and converted it into a personality cult – and the Republican leadership actively abetted him.          Continue reading
