MOTHER’S DAY SPEECH – By the late Randall Butisingh 1912-2012

Randall Butisingh's Weblog

Speech given by Randall Butisingh made at a gathering of people of a mixed religious group.

We have met today to pay tribute to that most important and lovable person, the Mother.

Here is a quotation from one of your bhajans ( hymns)

Maa teree mamta, kitnee pyaree

Kitnee pyaar jagatee hai

This translates as follows;

Mother, how great is your love

How much love does it awaken in me.

In another bhajan in your Atma Geet, it says; Maata, putra se pyar, kaun karega itnaa..Yes, the love a mother has for her son, who can exceed that love.And if I may quote a poem I learnt in school as a child;

A mother’s love, how sweet the name,

What is a mother’s love?

A noble, pure and tender flame

Enkindled from above

To bless a heart of earthly mould

    This entry still achieves hundreds of viewers every year.

    It was written on May 12, 2008 (at the age of 96) by my late friend and mentor Guyana-born Randall Butisingh who encouraged me to start Guyanese Online in 2010.  In 2008, he was the “World’s Oldest Blogger” and I helped him with establishing and monitoring his blog.  Go to his website and read the story of his life in “My Story”.

    Editor’s Note from Cyril Bryan:

    Update on December 10, 2012.,, on the Randall Butisingh Blog

    Teacher Randall 100 years old,  passed on to the great beyond on December 9, 2012.  May his soul Rest In Peace.

    “Teacher Randall attained his 100th birthday on December 1, 2012.  There was a wonderful party for the occasion held at the Nursing Home in Florida, where he resided. He had always looked forward to his 100th Birthday and he attained that goal, like the many other goals he achieved over his long life.

    We all extend our condolences to his family.

    Cyril Bryan. December 12, 2012

    Friend and assistant with his Blog… his greatest achievement!
