The numbers of four policemen stationed in ‘B’ Division (Berbice) were found stored in the cellphone of accused bandit Kelvin Shivgobin, who was killed in the recent shootout at Black Bush Polder and some of their fellow ranks want an independent investigation as they say the four are engaged in corrupt practices and are being aided by a senior officer in the Guyana Police Force leadership.
The ranks, who only spoke on condition of anonymity, told Stabroek News that they believe that if they do not speak out on the corrupt practices, nothing will be done and they said the situation is already “getting out of hand.” Continue reading →
[Jun 11, 2019 Kaieteur News ] The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) is preparing to hand down rulings in the highly anticipated no- confidence and GECOM chairmanship appeals. The Court has since notified attorneys of the upcoming rulings set for next Tuesday June 18, at 10:00 am. As per normal, the rulings will be broadcast via the CCJ website.
Last month, the Trinidad-based Court heard arguments in the consolidated no confidence matters as well as appeals in relation to the challenge over the legality of the appointment of the GECOM chairman. Continue reading →
Guyana Independence Parade NYC: PM Nagamootoo: Guyana on the cusp of wealth
Prime Minister of Guyana, Moses Nagamootoo, told expatriates that Cheddi Jagan and Forbes Burnham, late presidents — on the night of the country’s Independence ceremony in 1966, put aside their political differences and embraced each other, and urged nationals to see that embrace as a mandate for unity.
Nagamootoo, who, arrived in Brooklyn, with wife, Sita, on Sunday, June 2 to celebrate the nation’s 53rd Independence Anniversary, was the Grand Marshall of the 4th Annual Guyana Independence Committee Parade, which began at the corner of Church and Utica avenues. Continue reading →
