Granger: We respect the CCJ’s decision – President says as many as 200,000 incorrect entries on current voters’ list – will name elections day after GECOM’s recommendation

(Jun 19, 2019   )  Hours after groundbreaking rulings yesterday by the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) on the December 21st no-confidence vote in the National Assembly, President David Granger has made it clear that there will be respect for the judges’ decision.

However, there are immediate indications that the ruling Coalition is not inclined to rush into elections. Rather, according to the President, there are about 200,000 incorrect entries on the current voters’ list, which must be corrected.            Continue reading →

Guyana Elections can and must be held within 3 months – Opposition Leader Jagdeo

Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo is adamant that elections can be held within three months, despite claims by the Guyana Elections Commission that the earliest possible date would be some time in November.

During a press briefing at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition Leader yesterday, Jagdeo related that he is pleased with the rulings of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

The court ruled yesterday that the No-Confidence motion of December 21, 2018 was validly passed, and that the appointment by President David Granger of Justice (ret’d) James Patterson as the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) was flawed and unconstitutional.

As silence continues to prevail among the hierarchy of the Guyana Police Force and calls to the Divisional Commander, Paul Langevine, continues to go unanswered, Kaieteur News was reliably informed that the Detective Lance Corporal whose number, ranks confirmed, was found in the cell phone of now dead bandit, Kelvin ‘Kelly’ Shivgobin, was reverted (put back in police uniform) and transferred to the Central Police Station (within B’Division).

Guyanese man arrested at JFK with 34 birds in hair curlers

New York (pix11.com) – A man attempting to smuggle a flock of singing finches was caught in customs on Sunday at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.

Francis Gurahoo, 39, was charged with trying to smuggle approximately 34 finches from Guyana into the United States, according to a complaint filed by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn. Gurahoo, of Connecticut, concealed each live bird in a plastic hair curler in his carry-on bag, prosecutors said.
