US Embassy – Visa Queue
The number of visitors’ visas issued by the US Embassy in Kingston has continued to be fewer and fewer.
Over the last 12 months, between July 2018 and June 2019, figures from the US Department of State indicated that 4,401 non-immigrants visas were issued (B1/B2 category).
For the similar period the previous 12 months, 5,842 visas were issued. Continue reading

Last month Facebook announced that it will roll out in 2020 a global digital currency to be known as Libra.
It is a decision that has profound implications for all financial institutions everywhere, raises new regulatory concerns for Central Banks and governments, and challenges Caribbean financial sovereignty.
In outline, Libra is intended to be a “global currency and financial infrastructure” powered by Facebook’s encrypted blockchain technology. A study commissioned by Caribbean sugar producers has recommended a region-wide approach to producing white sugar and urged the enforcement of a tax on most sweeteners imported into the region even as domestic producers highlight extensive tax evasion by importers.
The report by the United Kingdom-headquartered LMC International has underscored the challenges faced by producers in Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries who struggle to compete with the cheap sugar sourced extra-regionally. Continue reading

U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet been vindicated. Only his reelection will provide that condition so rare in the modern era of politics.
But with the conclusion of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony on Wednesday, Trump has decisively repulsed the attempt to deny him the opportunity to win that vindication at the polls in November 2020. Indeed, the president is now obviously, and with a high probability of success, going on the offensive.
