Ever so politely – for Jason Holder is a polite man – West Indies’ captain redoubled the torment of an England team who could score only 77 runs on Thursday and take no wickets on Friday. USA: Trump accepts deal for temporary end to painful shutdown – BBC News

President Donald Trump has yielded to political pressure to end the longest US government shutdown in history.

After 35 days, he backed a deal to fund federal agencies for three weeks, but it includes none of the money he has demanded for a US-Mexico border wall.

The Republican president previously vowed to reject any budget unless it included $5.7bn (£4.3bn) to fund his signature campaign pledge.

But Democrats, who control the House of Representatives, flatly refused.

Later on Friday, the Senate and House unanimously passed a bill to temporarily end the shutdown.

Georgetown Guyana: King fired from Town Clerk post

After refusing to respond to charges made against him by the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into City Hall, Town Clerk Royston King had his services terminated on January 23, 2019.

Acting Town Clerk, Sharon Harry-Munroe will continue to occupy the post until it is advertised and filled.

Chairman of the Local Government Commission (LGC), Mortimer Mingo confirmed that King’s services at City Hall were terminated on Wednesday.He said in keeping with a letter which was dispatched to him to respond to charges made against him, the body gave King an opportunity to respond to the charges.       Continue reading
