Following his early morning arrest by ranks attached to the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU), 38-year-old former Minister of Housing, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, of Lot 38 Saray, Leonora, West Coast Demerara, was hauled before the court where he was slapped with 19 fraud charges.

The former minister is accused of defrauding Government of over $174 M, by selling several plots of State lands, below the market value, to former ministers of the then PPP/C government.           Continue reading

A probe has found grounds to terminate embattled Town Clerk, Royston King, and institute criminal proceedings against him.

The explosive findings are contained in the final report from the Commission of Inquiry into the operations of City Hall. APNU Councillor Ubraj Narine is the new Mayor of Georgetown. Narine, who won Constituency One (Kingston East and West, Thomas Lands, Nonpareil Park, Cummingsburg, Alberttown and Queenstown) at the November 12th local polls, was elected when the new councillors of the municipality met on 30th November 2018.

Trinidad PM says the opposition is sabotaging the country

The Opposition “is sabotaging the country” and “protecting the criminal elements.”

So said Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley as he addressed a public meeting on the City Hall, POS on Thursday night, November 29. 2018.

The Prime Minister said the UNC was “hell bent” on not voting for the Income Tax Amendment bill because it wanted ” to protect the criminal element in the country who is parading in the financial sector, those with money to launder, those with money to hide, and those with money they can’t explain”. He said the Opposition also knew that the outcome of not supporting the measure would be “chaos” and the “ sinking of the banking sector”.
