A great joy to read Buxton-Friendship Newsletter as a Buxtonian, am happy about what’s going on and I would make a strong effort to support some kind of activity, this must be done soon because age is catching up and memories of fellow Guyanese tug at my heart. I enjoyed the first story of the new series, Buxton Legends & Lore. Simeon Josephus “Prophet” Willis (1875-1958) was quite a man of big words!

Here’s a quote from his speech on the 100th Emancipation Anniversary that remains true for our times:
“The race of a people who do not thirst with assiduity for education is doomed. You and your children must make the sacrifice. If you don’t, then the great dreams of the people who bought and established these villages will be undeservedly squandered.”
