Housing issues dominated the concerns of hundreds of citizens, who swarmed the square of the revolution yesterday at the opening of Government’s first public day.
The massive outreach is being conducted at the Square of the Revolution saw more than 22 Government ministries and departments present to assist the public.

Following the hotly contested November 12, Local Government Elections last year, the (approximate) 202,000 citizens of Georgetown got a new Chief Citizen in the person of Pandit Ubraj Narine who received the Mayoral Chain from out-going Mayor Patricia Chase-Green. There was much work Mayor Chase-Green had on her hands, and there is equally much work for Mayor Narine, as Georgetown slowly inches its way to regaining its lost glory, and become “A Shining City on a Mud-Flat”. But it is an up-hill task in a city which falls below sea level whenever the tide rises.
There are so many things which the current citizens should be grateful for; the Georgetown we inherited is one of the best laid-out cities on the planet, for starters. In past times, Georgetown used to be known as, “The Garden City of the Caribbean”. The city lost that impressive title about thirty years ago when standards began to tumble. Continue reading

I should say that nothing can surprise me anymore. The media business is designed to do exactly that, but you learn after a while to deal with it. Yet it appears more and more that quite a few headlines have served up a curve ball that would stagger you.
Before this past week, I knew nothing of Pandit Ubraj Narine. Kaieteur News reported then that he was a front-runner to be elected mayor. I thought that would have been a tough sell.
We are talking here about Georgetown, the capital city, a stronghold of the People’s National Congress Reform. Yet on Friday, Pandit Narine was sworn in. Continue reading
APNU Councillor Ubraj Narine is the new Mayor of Georgetown. Narine, who won Constituency One (Kingston East and West, Thomas Lands, Nonpareil Park, Cummingsburg, Alberttown and Queenstown) at the November 12th local polls, was elected when the new councillors of the municipality met on 30th November 2018.

Mayor Ubraj Narine
He is a Hindu priest, twenty-seven years old, and is the Mayor of Georgetown in Guyana. Pandit Ubraj Narine was recently in New York where he met with Guyanese in the diaspora and brought them up to date with his plans for Georgetown.
In another twenty years, Georgetown will become unrecognizable as oil and gas will transform the city into a bustling international center. One of the highlights of Pandit Narine’s visit was his meeting with the Mayor of New York City, Mr. Bill de Blasio. The meeting was to explore ways and means in which the two cities can benefi t from each other’s resources.
