There is that saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words”; as such, this pictorial feature is likely one of my longest articles. During the year, 2017, I have taken over a thousand photographs in many locations in Guyana, as well as abroad, so it was a bit of a challenge to select the dozen which I have submitted for publication here.

A few days ago, the International Energy Agency reported that oil production in the US was undergoing extraordinary growth. The OECD-related body for net importers of oil said that the increase meant that US “production could equal global demand growth” largely because of its rapidly expanding shale output. This meant that US production would probably reach 11 million bpd by late 2018, outstripping Saudi Arabia and offsetting OPEC-led supply cuts aimed at increasing energy prices.      Continue reading →

-used some in ‘private hire’ service, demanded $24,000 a week from drivers  

Police were yesterday still trying to assess the scope of the recently dismantled carjacking ring whose operations stretched from East Coast Demerara to Linden.

Investigators believe that the gang included ex-policemen, several young taxi drivers, individuals with access to firearm, mechanics and bodywork specialists, women who acquired duplicate vehicle keys, and individuals who assisted in providing forged documents.       Continue reading →

Central High School closure put on hold – Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced that any closure of the Central High School is on hold.
The Ministry in a statement yesterday disclosed that it is currently exploring other avenues to have the children of that institution housed comfortably following a meeting with the Central High School Board, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), representatives of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) and officials of the MoE.               Continue reading →

Amid growing unhappiness over the 2016 Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) between Government and U.S. oil giant, ExxonMobil, President David Granger yesterday disclosed that the matter is engaging Cabinet.
