Kaieteur Falls. Guyana. South America.

Guyanese Online celebrated its 12th Anniversary in February 2022.

Guyanese Online was not established as a business website. Its main goal was to offer FREE advertising to Guyanese Associations worldwide, and to communicate with the Guyana Diaspora.

This goal has been achieved over the last 12 years, but the COVID pandemic has affected all organizations and we hope that they will recover quickly as life is normalized. The blog also features:

  • News Updates from Guyana and the Caribbean.
  • Guyanese and Caribbean Recipes.
  • Books published by Guyanese Authors.
  • Articles and commentaries by Guyanese and Caribbean writers.
  • Sponsored blogs – maintained by Guyanese Online
  • News and Commentaries + videos on current International events
  • Music and other videos.

READERS WORLDWIDE

We have a large readership of Guyanese as well as others worldwide.  Most of our readers (over 78%), are in the USA, Canada, the UK & EU. We email a list of Latest Entries every 3-4 days to persons on our database. E-mail us to receive this list.

The website carries articles and videos on Guyana, as well as a wide range of other subjects that may be of interest to our readers.  We hope that you like our selections. On this, our 12th anniversary, the website has achieved over 7.8 million total views.

Many thanks to those who have in the past, donated to Guyanese Online, and continue to do so. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so by mailing checks/cheques, drafts, or money orders, in my name, to my Toronto mailing address:

I live abroad and find that Guyanese Online provides an invaluable service in keeping me up to speed the latest news, arts and other goings-on in the country.
Congratulations on your first eleven years and long may you continue.

      Agreed, Arthur:

This site has been a revelation.

Guyanese Online has taught me a lot about the land of my birth over the years. I was only 22 and a half years old when I left more than 45 years ago. Obviously, I did not spend much of my adult life there to get to know the country as well as others.

My first and only job was at the New Amsterdam Magistrates Court – from January 1974 until May 1975 – before I was transferred to the Supreme Court in Georgetown where I worked for another two months before resigning to seek a better life far afield.

What fascinates me most are the lucid memories of my fellow countrymen and countrywomen who can recite intriguing, personal stories with great details and incredible clarity: stories of their childhood neighborhood and who lived next door or down the street, tales of trips into the forest, encounters with wildlife and venomous snakes, the Amerindian way of life, and so on.

Guyanese have great stories to tell and thanks to Cyril we can all tell our own as we simultaneously learn from our compatriots.

May the site remain vibrant for many more years.

      Cheers, Ron.

The Good, Bad and Ugly….Thanks for the “news” of our beloved country and homeland..You and your website have been a welcome and refreshing breath of fresh air of “honest” opinion and commentary. Sometimes biased and in need of credibility and authenticated support but nonetheless someone else’s opinion which is just as good as one’s own. Keep up the good work and I am happy to support your efforts anytime as needed. Thank You

Guyana, a country of 83,000 mi² Population 2021 (Live) 791,046 (almost twice the size of New York) – this number has been of great concern to me personally, and I am quite sure for other Guyanese and their descendants worldwide. Now according to “world population.com” the aformentioned figure is as recent as September 11, 2021 as it is their claim that “Guyana has experienced rather unstable growth and decline over the last fifty years and it’s currently growing very slowly, a trend that will last for some time.” Then they further went on to say “The current population of Guyana is 791,046 based on projections of the latest United Nations data. The UN estimates the July 1, 2021 population at 790,326.” Furthermore, it was added “Guyana Population 2021 (Live)

Now with all these so-called data, above-mentioned, this number or approximate has been stagnated for as far as my memory serves me, 59 years and still counting. Guyanese love having kids, they are their biggest investment. Where is the CENSUS dollars are going to? It is very embarrassing to Guysnese to be mock at over a figure which basically says “your country has no births, nor deaths, DEBTS, yes.” Cry shame on all those administrations over the last 60 years or so who have been using the nation’s money to fan their “fanny,” and keeping Guyana stagnated. That’s why those with some common sense, wisdom and honest skills have flown the nest. Imagine more than 1 million Guyanese can be accounted for who live outside of Guyana, while Guyana’s Census Board over 6 decades have been in LALA Land when it comes to reporting close to accurate information on their Nation’s Population growth.
New York is approximately 122,283 sq km, while Guyana is approximately 214,969 sq km, making Guyana 76% larger than New York. Meanwhile, the population of New York is ~19.4 million people (18.6 million fewer people live in Guyana).

    • Joan Seymour  On 12/29/2021 at 8:03 pm

I am also interested in the continued numerical report on the population of Guyana. does everyone leave? why don’t we see some increase in the people living in Guyana? Yes, certainly there are likely to me at least one million living overseas, but why don’t the local numbers change?

  • Joan Seymour  On 12/29/2021 at 8:04 pm

Congrats on the hard and worthy work of running this blog for so many years. May you have many more years ahead.
