Guyana Medical Mission completes 51 successful surgeries at New Amsterdam Hospital in one week visit

Members of the Guyana Medical Mission

Doctors from the Guyana Medical Mission, during their annual one- week stay in Guyana, successfully completed 51 surgeries at the New Amsterdam Hospital while providing technical support to the local doctors and nurses present at the health Institution.

This information was reported to members of the media at the Hospital’s Boardroom on Friday, November 10 as the medical mission’s annual trip came to a close.      Continue reading

The Law Enforcement and Investigation Division (LEID) of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) recently seized millions of dollars worth of smuggled beverages on two trawlers which were making their way from Trinidad and Tobago.

Some of the beverages seized by GRA’s Law Enforcement and Investigation Division.The seizure was made in Guyana.

On October 19, 2017 Guyana’s President David Granger autonomously appointed 84 year-old retired Guyana Supreme Court Judge, James Patterson, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission. The autonomous appointment was a departure from the traditional process and caused a fracas. The law requires the President to appoint a chairman from a list of nominees from the opposition Leader. The said law also empowers the President to supersede the list and independently appoint the Chairman if he deems the list to be unacceptable.
