QCAAT Father’s Day fundraising brunch, June 9, 2019 – Toronto: Report on Projects

Since its founding in 1991 Queen’s College of Guyana Alumni Association Toronto Chapter (QCAAT) has contributed to Queen’s College in Guyana a total of approximately CAN$220,000 to assist the students and staff in various ways.

QCAAT’s primary objective is to provide assistance to the school to help maintain its standard of excellence for which it is renowned. ­ The upcoming Father’s Day Brunch to be held on Sunday June 9 is yet another of QCAAT’s events to raise funds to continue this assistance.  

  • PROJECTS AT QUEEN’S COLLEGE. Georgetown. Guyana

— Library Computers and Computer Networks

QCAAT’s major projects so far included upgrading the school’s library in 2011 (C$80,300) by providing laptop computers for use by both students and staff; replacing the then existing deficient and dysfunctional network with a modern, professionally designed, secure and robust one, along with funds for annual network maintenance.

— High Speed Wireless + Intercom System 

The project also established high-speed wireless connectivity throughout the school and its surroundings. Other contributions included the installation of a modern intercom system (C$17,500) to facilitate communication between the school’s principal and the classrooms and other areas of the school;

— Auditorium audio + Musical Instruments + Music books

The provision of musical instruments, music education books, an audio system for use in the school’s auditorium (approx. C$48,000); contributions (approx. C$25,000) to the school and the QC Parent Teachers Association for various infrastructural works.

 — Bursaries

QCAAT has also awarded 43 bursaries totaling C$36,000 to assist students pursuing post-secondary education at institutions both in and outside of Canada. Bursaries are awarded to qualified children and grandchildren of the Chapter’s alumni as well as to deserving QC graduates. ­
