Eastern Airlines, formerly branded as Dynamic Airways, denied GEO-NYC license
Government rejects application of Eastern Airlines …says the re-branded Dynamic Airways still owes GRA, CJIA …some passengers still to be refunded
The decision, announced by Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson is directly related to the financial challenges of the airlines’ former brand, Dynamic Airways which has now been re-branded Eastern Airlines.
However, Guyanese travellers are familiar with Dynamic Airways and its troubles. In July 2017, following several instances when passengers were stranded at the CJIA and the John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport, the carrier announced that it had filed a voluntary Chapter 11 petition with the United States Bankruptcy Court. Hundreds of Guyanese passengers who had made bookings to fly on the troubled airline are still to receive the payments. Continue reading
Guyana Government seeks G$3.4B for GECOM to hold elections
Guyana Chronicle- 16 May 2019 – By Svetlana Marshall
General and Regional Elections. Funding
GOVERNMENT has asked the National Assembly to approve $3.4B for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for the holding of General and Regional Elections. The move is in keeping with a commitment by President David Granger that his Administration will ensure that GECOM is ready to facilitate early elections in the event the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) rules that the ‘Vote of No-Confidence’ against his Government was validly passed. The Court of Appeal, however, has invalidated that motion, and a decision from the CCJ – Guyana’s highest court, is pending.
On Wednesday May 15. during the 114th Sitting of the National Assembly in the Eleventh Parliament of Guyana, Supplementary Estimates (Current and Capital) to the sum of G$3,496,496,155 were presented for the Elections Commission. Continue reading
The APNU+AFC after four years and why the PPP should not come back – By Dr. David Hinds
May 11, 2019 marked the fourth anniversary of the coming to power of the APNU+AFC Coalition Government. The government and one of its constituent parties, the AFC, have issued statements which highlight the achievements of the administration. Since the PNC has not issued a separate statement, one can assume that the government’s statement reflects the views of that party.
The WPA is not usually consulted by the government or APNU on such matters, and because there is no consensus among that party’s leadership on the Coalition’s tenure, the public is not likely to hear from Rodney House.
It is safe to say that by the time the fifth anniversary comes around, a new government would be in place—either the Coalition would be re-elected, or the PPP would be returned to power. So, this anniversary takes on added significance—it is the last anniversary for the Coalition to make its case for re-election. Continue reading →
