Founded a year ago in September 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic raged around Guyana and the rest of the world, a group of 33 patriotic Guyanese banded themselves together and founded the Rotary Club of Garden City – Georgetown.  Each individual member felt that their involvement could make a positive difference to the quality of life of their fellow Guyanese. As most citizens would agree, there is the need for many more individuals and groups who are focused on giving more of themselves to work for the genuine development of the Guyana society at large.

The important discipline of not littering or dumping garbage illegally, here, there and anywhere, is needed so much in Guyana at this time. While there are exemplary citizens who do the right things most of the time, there are just too many who lack the urge to extract the line from the country’s National Pledge which states in part, “To Love My fellow citizen.”      Continue reading

In her address she touched on some controversial issues relating to Barbados and other Caribbean countries, as well as the present world we live in.

It has been considered one of the best speeches made recently by any leader addressing the UN, and was reported widely in the worldwide media. In it she mentioned the song “Get Up Stand Up” By Bob Marley,  the famous Jamaican Reggae singer

Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, addresses the general debate of the 76th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 21-27 September 2021).

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
