GUYANA: Gov’t and Exxon not seeing eye to eye on several issues in Payara permit

Vice President (VP), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, yesterday informed the press that several issues remain in the Field Development Plan (FDP) for ExxonMobil’s Payara project, on which the Government and the company do not see eye to eye, but that negotiations are ongoing and the administration’s fulfillment of its promises is a work in progress.

Guyana Govt fends off criticism over hiring of former Canadian provincial premier to review Payara oil well

Minister of Natural Resources  Vickram Bharrat on Sunday shrugged off concerns about Canadian consultant Alison Redford being at the helm of a team that has been hired to review work done on ExxonMobil’s Field Development Plan for the Payara oil field because she has been fingered in alleged misuse of public funds in her home country.

“Some of the criticism I think is a bit unfair. It is politically driven and there are people, who are behind it too  with probably different interests at the same time,” Mr, Bharrat said. “We have confidence in the Canadians and they recommended her so we’re willing to work with her,” he  added. The Natural Resources Minister said President Irfaan Ali would have to be first satisfied with the documents that he would be signing.    Continue reading

GUYANA: Office of the President to have oversight of finance; natural resources

The Cabinet appointments made by the President Infaan Ali did not include a Minister of Finance. It also did not assign any ministerial responsibilities to the Prime Minister.

In response to several queries, the media corps and, by extension, the general public, is being advised that the Office of the President will have oversight for the areas of Finance and Natural Resources.    Continue reading
