Corruption” A case of stealing more than one can hide

Adam Harris
Jul 03, 2016 Features / Columnists, My Column – Adam Harris
When the wider society began to talk about theft and corruption, when the media picked up the issue, when the politician made it a campaign issue, the rebuttal was that anyone making the accusation should provide the proof.
None other than Bharrat Jagdeo challenged those making the accusations. He dared anyone to find anything that would seek to tarnish the image of the people around him and those working in the public sector, especially those in the upper echelons of the government.
Being in the government has its advantages. The police are never allowed to investigate government officials and when these people commit a crime they are allowed to continue their normal lives. Immediately names like Kellawan Lall and Ashni Singh come to mind. Lall knocked down a policeman and left him crippled. He has not been called on to pay for that incident. Continue reading →

Cash-strapped NCN in hot water for paying OP’s phantom bloggers

Kwame Mc Coy
June 3, 2015 | By KNews | Some of the persons hired to work in a shadowy unit reportedly spearheaded by Kwame Mc Coy, former Press Liaison of the Office of the President, were not even stationed there, as shocking details continue to emerge over the extent of the abuse of state resources under the previous Government.

Guyana: New Elections In The Air?
Editor’s Note
If the AFC does not vote for the National Budget Estimates for the Office of the President for the reasons mentioned in its Press Statement below, that would be only 7 votes in the 65 seat National Assembly. It would then depend on how APNU with its 26 seats votes. If both Opposition Parties vote against the estimates of expenditure for the Office of the President, President Ramotar will have little alternative but to call a new General Election.
A new General Election is therefore in the air depending on whether the PPP/C Government accedes to the AFC request that the Minister of Finance immediately enters into discussions with the AFC and APNU with a view to removing certain allocations, including those for NCN and GINA, from under the Office of the President’s allocation and placing them under another mutually negotiated Head. If the Government is not obliging, then new elections will also depend on if APNU joins the AFC in voting against the OP’s allocation. Continue reading →
