The historic meeting on Thursday between Heads of State for South America’s oil and gas producers, specifically President of the Republic of Suriname, H.E. Chandrikapersad Santokhi and President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, H.E. Jair Messias Bolsonaro, has resulted in an agreement for analysis and cooperation on several matters, including opportunities in energy and oil and gas.

GUYANA: Gov’t and Exxon not seeing eye to eye on several issues in Payara permit

Vice President (VP), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, yesterday informed the press that several issues remain in the Field Development Plan (FDP) for ExxonMobil’s Payara project, on which the Government and the company do not see eye to eye, but that negotiations are ongoing and the administration’s fulfillment of its promises is a work in progress.

The President, Dr. Irfaan Ali said that he has asked the Vice President, as well as Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat to examine the issues surrounding the Payara project on a daily basis, to advise and inform him.  Continue reading

Jagdeo says Irfaan Ali is constitutionally “deemed” President; no reference to Chief Elections Officer

Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo on Wednesday said Guyana’s constitution clearly provides for the People’s Progressive Party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Irfaan Ali to be declared President.

“It has already been established now that the PPP’s list has the most votes and, therefore, Irfaan Ali is already deemed the President of Guyana. It’s awaiting that section of the Constitution  which says that the Chair of GECOM shall now declare him so as far as we are concerned all of the shenanigans  to prevent the declaration, it will not work because that is the Supreme Law of the country,” Jagdeo said.          Continue reading
