My Indo-Guyanese friends have voiced fears that Guyana will transform into the Equatorial Guinea or Angola of the Americas.

They are even more scared at the fact that there is abundant oil, which means more money, even if a smaller share compared to other countries, which will be used to finance military and extra-judicial death squads to target academics, journalists, local businessmen and government critics.

You have to listen to some of the most wealthy businessmen in Guyana who have sold many of their assets in GT of what they fear to come.

ExxonMobil has a history of funding death squads in Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Angola. To make matters worse, Trump has abolished laws which would hold American corporations accountable for foreign bribery and corruption.

in other words, the oil money would either be pillaged to enrich the few or used to target dissidents.

I think Guyana would be a much better country next 4 or 5 years, thanks to the USA. They are showing a keen interest in Guyana. Look Americans know how to get thing done.

I’m not sure that Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Venezuela, Libya and a host of other countries which America invaded would happily agree.

America is purposely doing ExxonMobil’s bidding by destroying Venezuela to prevent Maduro from sending his war ships on the disputed economic zone.

Most of the oil is closer to Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Suriname and Venezuela, than it is to Guyana. The closest well is 100 miles away from the coastline, and most oil discoveries are a footstep away from Suriname’s waters.
