The Necessity Of New Ideas

The clock is ticking. Welfare economics has eroded in the West as Multinational Companies have taken full advantage of globalisation and far surpassed the wealth of many democratic States. Conflict & economic insecurity have fuelled the largest mass migration crisis in history. But the question, is this simply the natural consequence of our global economic system?

Why do we look at issues of war/economy/migration/climate change in isolation? Could it be that they are all connected to, and symptomatic of, the larger neoliberal global order?

Do we have to describe Countries as either “developing” or “developed” – Why are we all  on the same path to becoming urban concrete jungles of Starbucks & skyscrapers?

Is there perhaps a different path we can walk to eliminate poverty without selling our environment and democracy to private industry?

Opinion - commentary -analysisI am convinced that politics is about deception. It is about making one group of people look good and at the same time, criticizing the other. But in doing so the politicians give credence to the adage that the more things change, the more they remain the same.

When the coalition government came into office it did so on the back of a lot of promises. It has been able to keep some of these promises, but others have proven difficult. The result of the failure has led to rampant criticisms.
One of the promises was transparency. The government had promised to make available the numerous contracts signed by the previous government. However, the nation has suddenly found that it cannot be made privy to the Marriott contract. That is something that I cannot understand.           Continue reading

The name Claire Ann Goring is synonymous with folk culture in Guyana and is one of the most recognized names in the Guyanese and Caribbean community. Her outstanding creative work has won her many accolades over three decades, putting her in the company of great cultural icons before her.

On Aug. 31, Goring received a well-deserved honor. She was presented with the Guyana Cultural Association Lifetime Achievement Award, at the 13th Annual Awards ceremony at the Brooklyn Borough Hall.

She was also presented with a Citation from Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams.        Continue reading
