Cover DriveCover Drive were discovered on YouTube performing cover versions of their favourite hits

Barbados group Cover Drive have gone straight to the top of the UK singles chart with their track Twilight.

The quartet – who have supported fellow Bajan Rihanna – had their first Top 10 single, Lick Ya Down, last September.

Twilight held off a challenge from David Guetta’s song Titanium, featuring Australian singer Sia, which rose to number two.   Sia features on another track in this week’s chart, making a guest spot on Flo-Rida’s Wild Ones at number five.   read more

CASTRIES, St Lucia, Wednesday February 1, 2012 – All systems are go for this year’s St Lucia Jazz festival which is expected to kick off from April 30 to May 13.

Now into its 21st year, this year’s festival will encompass 14 days of performances by 50 artistes drawn from St Lucia, the regional and international circles. It will kick off with opening acts from Trinidadian power couple Fay Ann Lyons & Bunji Garland. The opening will also feature dancehall wonder Busy Signal and Saint Lucian singing sensation Teddyson John.

Millions to be spent on Trinidad Carnival for 2012

imageCaribbean Airlines reporting that 220, 000 people booked for carnival.

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Friday February 3, 2012 – The Trinidad Carnival has been described as “big business” which now has a total allocation of $96.5 million to be spent.

Yesterday the Trinidad Cabinet approved a supplemental $53 million for the event that already had an expended budget of $43.5 million.

Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism, Winston “Gypsy” Peters explained that with Caribbean Airlines reporting 220, 000 people booked to visit the country for Carnival, which will culminate with two days of mass on February 20 and 21 at various, it was big business.

Concerns raised by Guyanese parents in the New York area about the side-effects of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine that was launched among school-age girls in Georgetown, was quickly quelled by Guyana-born gynecologist, Dr. Mahendranaugh Sohan during a recent interview in his downtown Brooklyn office.

Dr. Sohan shot down claims that Gardasil is a danger to the lives of young girls, by stating that the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the side effects, which he added are similar to the effects of a stomach virus.

A Board Certified obstetrics and gynecology specialist, Dr. Sohan argues that contrary to reports, the HPV Vaccine is not controversial, adding that since the CDC approved the vaccine in 2009, it has shown to be quite beneficial, combating more than 30 types of HPV viruses. Continue reading
