AFC insists on Nagamootoo as new House Speaker
The Alliance For Change (AFC) is adamant that Moses Nagamootoo is perfect for the post of Speaker of the National Assembly.
This was expressed by Chairman of the AFC, Khemraj Ramjattan, during the party’s weekly press conference at their Fourth Street, Campbellville, headquarters yesterday.
The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is recommending Senior Counsel, Ralph Ramkarran, to return as Speaker while A Partnership For National Unity (APNU) has endorsed attorney-at-law, Deborah Backer.
Leader of the AFC, Raphael Trotman, whose name was up in the air has withdrawn.

In noting Nagamootoo’s qualities for the post of Speaker of the National Assembly, Ramjattan said that the former PPP stalwart has legal knowledge, was a part of the legal Constitution Reform Commission, and has an understanding of the needs of parliament and its functions in the country. He also has the capacity to be assertive and diplomatic when required.
“He is as consensual as it can get.”
Acknowledging that the opposition parties have a list of priorities for Parliament, Ramjattan said the political parties must discuss and come to a compromise hopefully for the best interest of the country.
A lawyer by profession, Nagamootoo has long said that he was earmarked for the leadership of the PPP, after Dr. Cheddi Jagan, who led that party back to power in 1992, died. However, that claim was refuted by the PPP.
Nagamootoo has been largely silent in recent years and was not elected back into the party’s senior hierarchy.
In recent months, he was highly critical of the PPP/C administration and finally ended speculations that he was considering leaving the party, when he announced his endorsement of the AFC.

If his nomination is approved, then the house will be on fire all of the time. he might be the perfect speaker, since he was a root member of the PPP/C and is likely to have knowledge of their battle plan, and can therefore respond favorably in the interest of all Guyana. The APNU nominee, is quite good too, she has the vigour and the instinct to carry the burden to the journey’s end..Good luck to them all and may the spirit of Christmas be with us all.
MERRY XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Here we are at the eve of 2011 almost gone
What a tumultuous year very few have won
Despite all that problem
With a few this and them
Sexual perversion headlined the news
Some got caught for their sinful abuse
But the good & charity rally to help
Whether it was an animal or whelp
I have learnt to go with the flow
And don’t complain about the snow
NA has become so commercialized
And we also have become insensitised
We seek every material thing
The dollar and bling – bling
We’ve forgotten about the prophet
We’ve lost the real Christmas spirit
My humble HOME (the Datt’s)TO YOURS
ALL THE BEST FOR 2012
