AFC insists on Nagamootoo as new House Speaker

The Alliance For Change (AFC) is adamant that Moses Nagamootoo is perfect for the post of Speaker of the National Assembly.
This was expressed by Chairman of the AFC, Khemraj Ramjattan, during the party’s weekly press conference at their Fourth Street, Campbellville, headquarters yesterday.
The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is recommending Senior Counsel, Ralph Ramkarran, to return as Speaker while A Partnership For National Unity (APNU) has endorsed attorney-at-law, Deborah Backer.
Leader of the AFC, Raphael Trotman, whose name was up in the air has withdrawn. Continue reading

New Chinese-made ferries arrive in Guyana

The two Chinese-made ferry vessels worth more than US$14.4 million have arrived in Guyana are to be put into operation on the Essequibo River early next year.

Financing of the design, construction and transportation of the MVs Sabanto and Kanawan was done through a grant by the Government of China.

Speaking aboard one the vessels, Public Works Minister, Robeson Benn said the vessels would begin serving the Parika- Supenaam route in early February. He said changes are being done to the stellings to facilitate the mooring of the vessels.    Continue reading
