Fly Jamaica commences flights to US January 25

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Friday January 18, 2013 – Fly Jamaica, a new local airline, makes its first commercial flight on January 25, the airline’s chief operating officer Captain Lloyd Tai has said.   The airline, with 80 employees, will operate a single Boeing 757-200 aircraft. Its first flight on January 25 will be to the JFK Airport in New York.

“We are a standard carrier. Initially, we will fly to New York; however, plans are in the pipeline to also fly to Toronto and also Guyana. Full service will also be offered, especially on our long flights when passengers will get a full meal. We are also competitive in terms of our prices,” Tai said.

Tai revealed plans to acquire an additional aircraft by year-end to bring its fleet to two.  The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) issued an Air Operator Certificate to Fly Jamaica in September of last year.

Fly Jamaica is a partnership between Guyanese Paul Ronald Reece, the company’s chief executive officer, and three Jamaican shareholders including Tai.  Transport Minister Dr Omar Davies called it “real evidence of regional co-operation”.

Fly Jamaica will also operate between Kingston and Guyana, with Davies noting that air travel between the two Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries has always been problematic.  “This is an example of how Jamaicans can work together. This venture will reduce the challenge of travelling between Jamaica and Guyana,” Davies said.

    question
will “fly jamaica” be internet bookable….and will they be more competitive than
caribbean airlines ? Will they be members of Abta ….
From UK to Jamica is very competitive pricewise ….BA Virgin et al…
Connecting with guyana from jamaica will also make Liat and Carib airlines
    more competitive…pricewise.

    lets see how this develops

I will give Fly Jamaica to NY 1 Year before travelling with that airline. I am worried to use immediately as what happened to EZjet and Red jet is frightening. Then the Aitline will have to be better than CAL in their competitive pricing.i.e from Guyana to JFK in NY and back.

last april I flew with VIRGIN LGW (london gatwick) to BARBADOS bookable
one way or return over internet…about 500pounds return…but was unlucky
on the Barbados-Georgetown leg of my journey…RED JET went “belly-up”…bust
so had to switch to LIAT Barbados-Georgetown at double RED JET s price
…having lost my money with REDJET…my next visit to GT will be via MIAMI
with few days stop over …. LONDON MIAMI is about 300 pounds return
and MIAMI GT less…air travel is a very competitive business …all internet bookable well in advance today…savings hundreds if booked well in advance…

I fly LGW (london gatwick)MLN(milan malpensa) bookable with EASYJET
for 25 pounds then onto MALAGA (spain) for another 25 pounds …
all bookable in advance via internet….today we use the plane like a
car bus train even ferry….I just love it !
air travel is the future !
