Welcome to Shell Beach GUYANA

Welcome to Shell Beach GUYANA

Here are some more pictures of Shell Beach to compliment those on the Mabaruma Sojourn video.

Shell Beach is not only one of the most beautiful spots in Guyana, it is also an important nesting beach for sea turtles. The Guyana Marine Turtle Conservation Society (GMTCS) is working with local communities and international partners to ensure the long term survival of those fascinating ocean nomads. This is a beautiful reminder of my childhood. The only thing I regret is taking the eggs from the beach after the turtle leaves the beach and goes back to the water ways. We would take hundreds of eggs back to Georgetown and scramble them for breakfast. We also made turtle egg ice cream and no one knew that we made the custard with turtle eggs. We also when camping in that area would boil the eggs with salt and suck them out of the soft shell. My dad liked to eat them raw. I am glad the laws are in now prohibiting people from taking the eggs.
