Guyana Elections: PPP asks CCJ to block GECOM from declaring results before hearing appeal of “valid votes” case

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is asking the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) to block the Chief Elections Officer and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) from declaring the results of the March 2, 2020 polls.

PPP General Secretary, Bharrat Jagdeo, in affidavit, asked the CCJ to restrain GECOM from taking any further steps to determine whether the recounted votes as tabulated by the Chief Election Officer constitutes “a final credible count”.      Continue reading

Guyana Politics: PPP rules out returning to Parliament to approve cash for govt; says state of emergency impossible

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) on Sunday ruled out returning to Parliament to  approve funds for government spending if the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) invalidates the March  2, 2020 general and regional elections.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) wishes to make it abundantly clear that it will never return to Parliament or support the convening of Parliament unless the true results of the 2nd March 2020 elections, as recently recounted, is lawfully declared by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM),” the PPP said in a statement.      Continue reading

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP), according to its General Secretary, Bharrat Jagdeo, will not recognise as valid, the contracts handed out by the Caretaker A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) Government, as its powers have been vastly reduced, following its defeat on December 21, 2018, by a Motion of No Confidence in the National Assembly.

The Opposition Leader is confident that with him at the helm of the party and Mohamed Irfaan Ali as its presidential nominee, it will win the upcoming General and Regional Election.       Continue reading

 The People’s Progressive Party (PPP), which played a significantly leading role in fighting for Guyana’s independence from Britain, will be participating in the 50th Independence Anniversary Flag Raising Ceremony.

“We will be attending the Flag Raising ceremony because we believe that will be a very important event,” Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo announced at a news conference at his party’s headquarters, Freedom House.
