Hours before the mortal remains of political activist, Courtney Crum-Ewing were due to be interred, City Mayor Hamilton Green announced that intends to take steps to memorialize the name of the man who became well-known for his solo protests outside the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs.

Publisher of the Kaieteur News newspaper, Glen Lall also announced that he intends to begin a fund for Crum-Ewing’s children in honour of the man who held daily protests outside Attorney General, Anil Nandlall’s office for remarks that government official made in a private conversation with a Kaieteur News reporter.

There has been quite a stir in Guyana since President Bharrat Jagdeo, in defending his sumptuous lifestyle, suggested that the party’s founder leaders and heroes Cheddi and Janet Jagan lived well too.

Ex-Executive Ralph Ramkarran and the Jagans daughter, Nadira, disputed Jagdeo’s suggestion. A few others have followed. But, none of the current leaders of the party has said anything in defense of the Jagans. What is clear is that the present PPP leaders are prepared to go at any length to protect their hold on power, including denigrating their founder-leaders. Good afternoon dear family and friends,

I am humbled by the request I received yesterday from Mrs Donna Harcourt, mother of Courtney, to give this Tribute at the Service today.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2015 we are informed, Courtney Crum-Ewing was walking in Diamond exhorting residents of that neighborhood in Diamond to vote at the Elections on May 11, 2015. He had his political preferences – as was his democratic right and he was very vociferous in his advocacy, using a bullhorn to get his message across.

Then, the story goes, he may have been dazzled by the lights of an oncoming vehicle while another vehicle behind him came up, armed person or persons exited the vehicle and executed him.   Continue reading →
