Jagdeo, David Patterson, Khemraj Ramjattan and the IAC – By Freddie Kissoon

By Freddie Kissoon

The brother of Minister David Patterson was arrested for narcotics in Grenada. Before that, there was a celebration in the New Amsterdam prison where prohibited items were in use. Bharrat Jagdeo took some nasty swipes at Minister Patterson. The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) took some nasty swipes too at Khemraj Ramjattan, Minister of Security.

Jagdeo thinks Patterson should do the right thing insinuating that he should resign though Jagdeo stated that the Opposition Leader is not calling on Patterson to resign. The IAC is demanding Ramjattan’s resignation. Both Jagdeo and the IAC are creatures from another world that the Guyanese people need to read up on. Here are some notes about them.    Continue reading

Former Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall yesterday categorically denied any involvement in the assassination of political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing, and said that an ex-bodyguard of his, Rajput Narine, who police have detained, was hired several days after Crum-Ewing’s death.

Nandlall made the denial during a press conference in which he repeatedly refuted suggestions that he, or any members of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), orchestrated the murder, which is being deemed a politically motivated killing.    Continue reading

It’s been three months now since Courtney Crum Ewing was murdered on the streets in Guyana. His demise drew widespread condemnation from large sections of the society. The masses in conjunction with the political leaders transformed his funeral into carnival of protest. That moment may have had something to do with the collective energy that would make May 11 a historic day.

The then government instructed the police to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the killer or killers. Many pointed to a political motive. The then opposition vowed to find the killers if the assume office. Civil Society lifted their voices.   Continue reading

Pres. Donald Ramotar

Even as the police investigations drag on into the murder of Courtney Crum-Ewing, President Donald Ramotar has described the slain anti-government protestor as nothing but a nuisance.

The Guyanese leader while addressing a West Berbice Chamber of Commerce meeting last Saturday dismissed suggestions that Crum-Ewing was assassinated, claiming that his (Ramotar’s) party, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic had nothing to gain from the killing.

“He was no threat to the PPP…he was no threat to the government…he was a nuisance value more than anything else. He was spreading a lot of racist talk on his Facebook, and all kind of things of that nature he was doing,” Ramotar told the Berbice business community. Continue reading
