The first two completed rounds of the 2022 Caribbean Regional Four-Day Championships would have presented the Desmond Haynes led Selection Panel with much food for thought to chew on in terms of their choices for the West Indies 13-member squad to face England in the forthcoming three-Test series.

With Head Coach Phil Simmons still currently away in India, it was left to his fellow selectors, Chairman Desmond Haynes and his sidekick Ramnaresh Sarwan, to observe player performances during the Four-Day Championships first two rounds as they pertained to eventual choices for the forthcoming Tests against England. CRICKET: CWI insulting Caribbean cricket fans and followers’ intelligence – commentary

There was much that we were intending to cover in this our sixth article for 2022. The West Indies exciting T20 Series win against England, the scheduled return of Regional four-day cricket, the forthcoming white ball Tour to India with its ODI and T20 matches, as well as the Selection Chairman Desmond Haynes’ recent statement about his panel’s intentions to consider players across all formats with regards to team selections.
All such matters would have been well worthy of our attention in this week’s article.  They must, however, all be cast aside in deference to our now mandatory reaction to Cricket West Indies (CWI) issued report on its “successful” England T20 series. A report that is, in our very humble opinions, amounts to a most unacceptable insult of the intelligence of all Caribbean cricket fans and followers.

CRICKET- West Indies – Haynes-Led Selection Panel Gambles On Darren Bravo and Kemar Roach For India Tour Squad!

As the first exercise of its associated duties since having been appointed, the Desmond Haynes-led Selection Panel recently announced its chosen 15 member squad for the West Indies limited-overs tour to India. The West Indies will play three ODIs and an equal number of T20I matches against their Indian hosts, during the two-week tour which runs from February 6-20.

Except for just two of the players named by Haynes and his fellow Section Panel members, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Head Coach Phil Simmons, the remaining thirteen of the fifteen chosen can now be said to have been wholly expected. The two whose selections have since caused a fair bit of consternation, as well as quite a few raised eyebrows, are Darren Bravo and Kemar Roach.      Continue reading →
