CRICKET: Analysis: West Indies’ England Test Series squad selections – Four Day Championships

The first two completed rounds of the 2022 Caribbean Regional Four-Day Championships would have presented the Desmond Haynes led Selection Panel with much food for thought to chew on in terms of their choices for the West Indies 13-member squad to face England in the forthcoming three-Test series.

With Head Coach Phil Simmons still currently away in India, it was left to his fellow selectors, Chairman Desmond Haynes and his sidekick Ramnaresh Sarwan, to observe player performances during the Four-Day Championships first two rounds as they pertained to eventual choices for the forthcoming Tests against England. In some instances, they would have been very pleased by what they saw, in others overly disappointed.              Continue reading

It has been a most interesting first week start to the 2022 New Year for West Indies cricket. The first days of 2022 have produced some exciting appointments to the West Indies Selections Panel, ongoing fitness concerns surrounding at least one key player, as well as a few very enlightening comments from Head Coach Phil Simmons.

Most West Indies cricket fans would have been excited by Cricket West Indies’ successive announcements of the appointments of Sir Desmond Haynes and Ramnaresh Sarwan, as the Selection Chairman and Member replacements for the recently deposed Roger Harper and Miles Bascombe. The reputations of both Haynes and Sarwan, within both the Region and the wider cricketing world, as very well respected, knowledgeable, high caliber former West Indies players are undeniably solid.          Continue reading

Cricket legends call for WICB officials to resign

West Indies cricket legends are calling for the “immediate resignation” of the Dave Cameron-led West Indies Cricket Board, in line with the recommendations of the WICB / CARICOM Governance Review Panel.

The legends, which include Sir Gary Sobers, Sir Wes Hall, Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Andy Roberts, Deryck Murray, Charlie Griffith, Desmond Haynes, West Indies captain Darren Sammy and sports psychologist Dr. Rudy Webster, held a meeting recently at the Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada where they insisted on the establishment of an interim board and the creation of a new structure to replace the WICB and manage the regional game.   Continue reading
