Born on June 7th 1927, Martin Wylde Carter was a Guyanese poet and political activist. Carter was truly a great poet, best known for poems encompassing scenes of protest and revolution. His poems reflect some of the tensions in his native Guyana during the 1950s and 1960s, continuing thereafter, and always feeding the imagination with elements of strife and struggle and then inner peace and hope.
