The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has said that no final declaration for the 2015 results will be made today (May 15, 2015).

Instead, the body said that the results of Monday’s elections for a new Government, will be revealed tomorrow (Saturday May 16) after midday when the period for which parties may raise objections would have elapsed.

The results have been declared by the respective Returning Officers for the 10 electoral districts, GECOM said. Continue reading →

Guyana Government to establish a national minimum wage

January 23, 2013 – Capitol News:  The introduction  of a national minimum wage for all workers could put an end to underpayment across all sectors and lessen complaints against exploitation by employers.

Apart from the established minimum wage of $50, 000 (US$250./month) for public sector workers, the Government would periodically dictate what the minimum wage for certain categories of workers in the private sector should be, but now, everyone would be covered.  Continue reading →
