GUYANA: Lenox Shuman of the Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) for Parliament

Lenox Shuman, the Leader of the Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) will be the first Member of Parliament for the list-joinder parties which hold one seat in Parliament.          

The other parties in the list-joinder are A New and United Guyana (ANUG) and The New Movement (TMI). The latter two will also rotate parliamentary functions with LJP. The LJP will hold the parliamentary seat for around two years.

On His Facebook page on August 6, 2020, Shuman released a letter sent to Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield listing his name as the list-joinder’s MP. Lowenfield had written to all of the parties that won seats at the March 2nd elections to name their MPs.    Continue reading

Guyana Elections 2020: Guyanese Voting in General and Regional Elections

Caribbean360 News – GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Monday March 2, 2020 – “Guyana today will demonstrate that it’s a democratic country capable of conducting elections efficiently, credibly in accordance with the law and with the Constitution.”

That view was expressed by President David Granger this morning, as he became one of the hundreds of thousands of Guyanese who are voting to elect a new government.

The 2,339 polling places opened at 6 a.m. Polls close at 6 p.m.

Granger, the first person to cast a ballot at the Pearl Nursery School, Pearl, East Bank Demerara this morning, expressed the hope that the estimated 661,378 eligible voters, “regardless of their political persuasion, come out and express their opinion in favour of the party of their choice.”          Continue reading
