In one week, five Guyanese died in Queens, New York City. It was a beautiful Friday morning when five friends boarded the Q41 bus. They were in a good mood, as their yearly exams were done. The start of the summer promised fun-filled activities. The friends stopped at Jamaica Bay, in Queens, New York.
It is an area that is known for its treacherous currents. According to reports, around midday, two friends, each aged 13, went into the water, near Broad Channel. The coalition appeared to have deliberately targeted its message to the predominantly East Indo-Guyanese community in Queens, New York who have been traditional backers of the incumbent PPPC.
Assurances- although not entirely watertight- that A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) would not kick out the Alliance For Change (AFC) from the coalition on winning the May 11, 2015 election were given against the background that the PPPC has been claiming that there would be a repeat of the PNC had booting the United Force (UF) four years after coalescing in 1964. “It will work my friends. While the Red Thread women in Guyana are marching, protesting, demanding shared governance and a halt to the shooting of their men and children, the other white meat, Indo Guyanese, are disentangling from their other ethnic counterparts in North America. This is direct fallout from the alleged falsified accounting and rigging of the elections. The lines that divide are visible, pronounced, vexing and immediate.
The examples are varied and various and are also happening in the Regions on a smaller but manageable scale. One of Victoria’s most prominent families, a husband and wife team of medical practitioners, have been able to overcome their differences. Surely, their overseas partners should take a leaf out of their book. The husband, Dr. Cummings, was a candidate for the affected PPP while his wife, Karen, also a doctor, was a candidate for the afflicted APNU. The children hanged TUF: (The United Force). DEBIT TO SOCIETY: A few of the hundred-plus alleged scammers involved in a massive fake-credit-card ring are led into Queens court.
Amar Singh was sentenced today after pleading guilty for his role in one of the largest ID theft and credit card scams in US history.
A cast of unsavory characters from Queens was busted for allegedly manufacturing thousands of bogus credit cards and using them on massive shopping sprees and luxury vacations.
The two-year investigation ended this week, as authorities smashed several fraud rings and arrested 110 people (most of them Guyanese) around the borough, according to court records and sources.
“They went everywhere — Apple stores, Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, anywhere you can possible imagine,” said a law-enforcement source. Continue reading →
