The opposition coalition – A Partnership for National Unity (APNU)- has decided that Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine will be the prime ministerial candidate.

APNU insiders confirmed to Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com ) on condition of anonymity that Roopnaraine,68, would run alongside presidential candidate, David Granger.

The coalition is also likely to announce the formula that would be used to arrive at the list of candidates and allocate seats in the National Assembly after the November 28 general and regional elections.    Continue reading

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, October 17, 2011 – The ruling Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has named Samuel Hinds as its prime ministerial candidate for the November 28 polls, his fifth such nomination.

Presidential candidate Donald Ramotar made the announcement Sunday night (October 16, 2011), at a rally in the bauxite mining town of Linden.

AFC’s Sheila Holder bows out of Election Race

The Alliance For Change’s (AFC) Prime Ministerial candidate, Sheila Holder on Friday announced that she was dropping out of the 2011 elections race due to ill health.

“My decision to withdraw now is because I will need urgent treatment, during the most intense period of the 2011 elections campaign which is imminent,” she said in a statement.

She did not disclose the nature of her illness.
