…NDIA said to be monitoring pumps, sluices
Kaieteur News – With sections of Georgetown knee-deep waters as result of heavy rains, the Ministry of Agriculture said that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has stepped up its monitoring of all pumps and sluices in the city. In a Press Release Tuesday evening the Ministry said following approximately four inches of rainfall recorded today and the anticipated high-intensity rainfall in the coming days.

House passes education, justice and agriculture allocations uncut

The National Assembly has unanimously passed the budget allocations for the education, justice and agriculture sectors without amendments.
Consideration of the estimates began on Tuesday following the ruling of Speaker of the House Raphael Trotman that the Assembly did have the power to reduce allocations as the opposition parties had signalled they would do.
Only one allocation, that of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), had been proposed to be cut. The AFC had proposed to reduce the $1.4B allocation to $585M. The opposition parties noted the Auditor General’s recommendation that the agency should have its own accounting body instead of its funds being run through the central ministry yet the practice continued. Fraud!!!! Audit report recommends dismissal of NDIA boss Lionel Wordsworth and Senior Engineer Aneel Chowbay

An audit report on the operations of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has recommended the immediate dismissal of the entity’s boss Lionel Wordsworth and the Senior Section Engineer, Aneel Chowbay, after several instances of fraud and conflict of interest were unearthed.
The report on fuel consumption and equipment operations and maintenance, was conducted between May and September. It was completed and submitted to the Chairman of the NDIA Board of Directors on September 26, and carbon copied to President Donald Ramotar. [Read More Fraud at NDIA unearthed]
