News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. July 18, 2014: Reggae, the musical genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s, is back on the Hot 100 chart but the group singing the ‘irie’ vibe is hardly black or Jamaican.

Actually, the singers of the song that has jumped to #1 on the Hot 100, dislodging “Fancy” byIggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX, are White Canadians. That’s right. You read right!

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. April 5, 2013: The musical genre of reggae may have originated in the largely black country of Jamaica and with Rastafarians but in the United States today, there is a gentrification of the genre.

 Seven out of the top ten reggae chart toppers this week on the Billboard reggae chart are all largely White and Americans.
