Guyana: Tourism Awareness Month – Tour Specials

As we celebrate Tourism Awareness Month under the theme “Preparing for a New Frontier – Stimulating Innovation within the Tourism Sector”, it is important that we recognise the innovative ways that our sector has undertaken to regenerate and rebuild amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

This resilience, aided by extensive support from the Guyana Tourism Authority has since yielded impressive results. To date, 53 tourism businesses have been granted conditional approvals for reopening and can now welcome travellers and guests to their establishments safely. Of these, several have carefully crafted tour packages in recognition of Tourism Awareness Month. These packages can be found on the GTA’s Facebook page under the album titled “Tourism Awareness Month 2021 Special Tour Packages”.            Continue reading

JEWEL IN THE MOUNTAINS

Essentially, this is her story, I’m only doing conduit work today, so when I report that the community’s name is derived from the Macushi word ‘krasa” referring to a canister found in one of the lakes in the area, you know that she’s the source of that footnote.        Continue reading

BBC Filming Raleigh Documentary

…. 10-part documentary titled, the ‘Serious Explorers-Raleigh.’

GUYANA as a destination of choice will again be propelled into the spotlight with the arrival of a team from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to begin filming a ten-part documentary titled, the ‘Serious Explorers-Raleigh.’

So as to accord the visitors a warm Guyanese welcome, Minister of Tourism, Manniram Prashad along with a team from the Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) journeyed Friday to Mabaruma in Region One (Barima Waini) where they caught up with and met the expedition members as they entered the Waini River to begin the first leg of their journey.

The BBC team, consisting of 15 adults and eight children from the United Kingdom, is here to retrace the footsteps of Sir Walter Raleigh in his quest to find the City of El Dorado.

Like Raleigh, the team sailed across the Caribbean from Trinidad and Tobago to the coast of Guyana. Arriving on the vessel, ‘Scaramouche’, the adventurers were warmly welcomed by the Tourism Minister and his entourage as they boarded the moored ship to interact with the visitors.
