 WITH heightened calls for the government to expose the corruption which allegedly had been fostered by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) administration while they were in office for over 23 years, President David Granger on Friday said his government is still in the process of building evidence.The President’s disclosure was made on Friday last during this weekly television show “In the Public Interest,” which was aired on the National Communications Network (NCN).

While in opposition, the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC) were very vocal on corruption, accusing the then PPP administration of nurturing and practising it.   Continue reading

The list of candidates for the May 11 general elections published in the newspapers today has former President Bharrat Jagdeo’s occupation as “President” while President Donald Ramotar’s occupation has been listed as “politician”.

Furthermore, Jagdeo is listed as living at State House 52-53 Main Street, the same address for Ramotar and his son Alexei. Continue reading

Jagdeo warns US visas will be hard to get if opposition elected

Sunday’s rally marked the official commencement of the party’s election campaign ahead of the May 11 general and regional elections.

Former president Bharat Jagdeo told a rally in Kitty on Sunday that the opposition parties, if elected into power, will create adverse conditions which will force Guyanese to apply for visas in increasing numbers, thereby forcing the United States (U.S.) Embassy in Guyana to clamp down on visa distribution here.

As hundreds of Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) supporters, decked in their white and/or red tops, listened intently, cheering for him ever so often, the former president outlined several predictions which did not adduce evidence to substantiate.
