Expressing fear of its Prime Ministerial Candidate Elisabeth Harper being subjected to ‘disrespect’, the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic has rejected the invitation for her to debate with Moses Nagamootoo, her counterpart in the Opposition.

The PPP/C noted yesterday that while it has accepted the invitation for a public Presidential debate from the Private Sector Commission, their decision to not entertain the Harper-Nagamootoo debate is final.  Continue reading

Presidential and Prime Ministerial candidates agree to public forum

The Presidential and Prime Ministerial candidates for the two major political parties have agreed to participate in a public forum hosted by the Guyana Women’s Roundtable (GWR) and the Guyana National Youth Council (GNYC).

According to the organisers, the forum is aimed at allowing the candidates from both the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) coalition, to address youth and women issues.

Each political party will have separate days to address the forum at the Theatre Guild, Parade Street, Kingston. The general public will be allowed to participate by pre-submitting questions via email to gnycteam@gmail.com or the GNYC Facebook page by noon April 13 and April 15, respectively.  Continue reading

Just hours after the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) began playing up the significance of a competent, honest woman as its Prime Ministerial candidate, two political analysts do not believe Ambassador Elisabeth Harper will bring much votes to the incumbent party against a combined opposition in the May 11, 2015 general and regional elections.

“I don’t think she will contribute any votes to the PPP. I think she brings value in terms of atmosphere and aesthetics. I mean she is a nice lady, she has been competent in what she is doing,” said former PPPC government minister, Dr. Henry Jeffrey.   Continue reading
