Since the Irfaan Ali administration took the decision to send Head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Vincent Adams on leave last week, several individuals have expressed frustrations over his removal at this critical time, as the government reviews Exxon’s third intended development in the Stabroek Block, the Payara project.

Concerns revolve around the fact that Dr. Adams sought to bring Exxon’s operations in line where a series of its environmental infractions are concerned.
Dr. Adams has championed several environmental issues plaguing ExxonMobil’s operations at the Liza Destiny Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, and has noted that he had actively been rewriting permits to ensure they are sufficient to ensure Guyana’s natural environment is safeguarded. Governing coalition partners APNU and the AFC have agreed that their ground-breaking Cummingsburg Accord should be revised and this process could be completed within four weeks of the most recent meeting.
A statement yesterday from the Alliance For Change (AFC) said that both sides have nominated teams. The AFC is led by the General Secretary David Patterson and includes National Executive members Dominic Gaskin and Dr. Vincent Adams. The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) team is led by their General Secretary Joseph Harmon.

ExxonMobil’s subsidiary, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL), has received approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop the second phase of the Stabroek Block Liza discovery. It is expected to produce over 6 million barrels of crude oil per month.
According to EPA documents, oil production from the Liza Phase Two Development is expected to last at least 20 years. EEPGL will drill approximately 35-40 wells offshore to support extraction of the oil from below the sea floor.

I’ve included a flyer about our Bourda Bazaar on Sunday, 10th December. The Bourda Bazaar will be opened by His Excellency F. Hamley Case and include musical performances from musicians, Keith Waithe, and Seetal Gurprashad (previously of the Hot Shots). There will also be an exhibition of work by the artists, George ‘Fowokan’ Kelly and Rebecca Sharples as well as stallholders selling Guyanese products as varied as books, jewellery, greeting cards, cushion covers, collages, food (e.g., conkie, pone, cassareep, etc) and drink.
