A Guyana-born American, who has previously eluded efforts to extradite him to the United States (US) , was Thursday arrested after more than 100 kilos of cocaine and a sum of Guyanese currency were allegedly found in his possession.

He has been identified as Barry “Mogatini” Dataram. Back in 2008-2010, Dataram engaged in several successful legal maneuvers in Guyana’s High Court to prevent him from being extradited to the US to face drug trafficking charges.  Continue reading

Opposition hopes for Supplementary Budget

Opposition Leader, David Granger on Saturday extended the olive branch to the government to hold further talks with a view to tabling a supplementary national budget.

“It is now up to the PPPC (Peoples Progressive Party Civic) administration to introduce the reasonable reforms have been demanded, to return to the negotiating table and to collaborate with the Opposition to introduce an agreed supplementary Budget which gives the Guyanese people the “good life” that they deserve,” he said.

Granger’s hope came one day after President Donald Ramotar called the almost GUY$21 billion dollar cut “poisonous” and tainted with political motives to secure power by creating social and economic stability.

At the same time, the Guyanese leader said he remained open to talks with political parties, among others. He has cautioned, though, that his government would not tolerate iron-fisted positions.  Continue reading
