Obama announces initiatives for energy security and education

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Friday April 10, 2015, CMC – US President Barack Obama on Thursday announced a US$20 million effort to jumpstart private and public sector investment in clean energy projects in the Caribbean and Central America.

Obama made the announcement as he wrapped up a visit to Jamaica where he held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and then met Caribbean Community (CARICOM) heads of government.   Continue reading

imageSt Lucia’s Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony charged that governments are “engaged in one form or another of self-denial” while the Caribbean is “in the throes of a major crisis like it has never ever experienced before”.

Thursday November 7, 2013 – St Lucia’s Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony says that there is a grave economic crisis gnawing away at Caribbean countries and “governments are busy looking inward – each busy with their own agenda rather than pursuing a Caribbean solution to the economic crisis”. President Xi’s visit: the first to the Caribbean

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Thursday May 30, 2013 – China’s President Xi Jingping arrives here on Friday for a three-day visit during which time he will meet with Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders.

The visit follows that of the United States Vice President Joe Biden earlier this week and according to a Chinese Embassy statement the visit is to “further increase political trust and consolidate friendship and cooperation with the entire region”.    Continue reading
