With respect to Treasury Bills, Guyana has accumulated over $80B in debt. And the Consolidated Fund could be overdrawn by as much as $60B.

Former Auditor General (AG), Anand Goolsarran in pointing to these startling findings, said that it paints the clear picture that “Guyana has been living beyond its means.”
To cement his point, he examined the explanation given by Finance Minister, Winston Jordan for the Consolidated Fund being in heavy overdraft.  Continue reading

Former Auditor General of Guyana Anand Goolsarran launches book on improving Public Accountability

The issue  of public accountability has been addressed in a publication by a former Auditor General of Guyana. The title of the book is Improving Public Accountability and is a compilation of Goolsarran’s experiences and research, which he used while pursuing a doctoral Degree. Anand Goolsarran served as Auditor General of Guyana for 15 years, leaving in a shroud of secrecy in 2005, to take up a post at the UN in New York.   [more]

AFC sending accounting, auditing experts to Public Procurement Commission

The Alliance For Change (AFC) on Wednesday announced that it would be nominating two experts in accountancy and auditing to the Public Procurement Commission (PPC) of the National Assembly.

They are Chartered Accountant and Attorney-at-Law, Christopher Ram and Former Guyana Auditor General, Anand Goolsarran.

Making the announcement, AFC Chairman Khemraj Ramjattan said he was not worried that government would knock the PPC work in light of the presence of two known harsh government critics.    [ more ]
