Mayor of the City of East Orange, Lester E. Taylor III on June 10, congratulated Guyanese on their 50th Independence Anniversary on the steps on City Hall, and said it was a joy to welcome the nationals to the City of East Orange where ‘our vision is setting the standard for excellence to become a destination city.”

“I am very proud to recognize that East Orange has the second largest Guyanese American population next to queens New York, and I am very happy to congratulate all Guyanese on the 50th Anniversary of your independen­ce,” said the politician, who joined the founders of the Guyana American Heritage Foundation Inc. The date set by President David Granger is April 23, 2016.

He made the announcement on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at a public meeting held at the Bartica Secondary School. “I made a promise when I was campaigning and I promised that Bartica will become a town before the 26 May, 2016, the 50th Independence anniversary, in fact Bartica will be a town on the 23rd  April 2016.”  Continue reading
