Aubrey Williams (1926 –1990) was a British-Guyanese artist. He is best known in Guyana for the Timehri series of murals at what is now the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. The murals feature shapes and symbols that draw on the culture of our indigenous peoples. Williams left for the UK in 1952 at the age of 26. Twenty years later, in 1972, Aubrey Williams was interviewed about his early years in Guyana by art/cultural historian Anne Walmsley. The reading is based on that interview with illustrations to accompany it. In it, he talks of the seminal influence of the Warrau people, among whom he lived and worked for a few years. The reading has been pre-recorded by Stanley Greaves, a friend and contemporary of Aubrey Williams.
We suggest that you register in advance of the meeting (it takes a minute to register) and that you make a note in your diary.
We look forward to seeing you.
Yours sincerely,
Moray House Trust
