Buxton-Friendship Express Newsletter – October – December 2022

Season’s greeting to you and your loved ones! We hope that your holiday celebration is filled with lots to eat, drink and be merry.

As we reflect on the outgoing year, we realise that we were able to achieve an incredible lot despite ongoing fundraising constraints caused by the Pandemic. Thanks to our amazing team of volunteers, donors, sponsors, patrons and friends who stepped up their support!

We were able to expand our Backpack Programme to provide schoolbags filled with essential school supplies for all the primary school pupils who are preparing to write the important National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination in 2023 and 2024. As usual, all of the new high school students were furnished with filled backpacks to meet their respective school curricula. Consideration is being given to further expand the project to cover pupils in the lower grades as well. Obviously, this would hinge on funding.

Our community is really proud of the excellent number of graduates from the University of Guyana this year. It’s a huge accomplishment, which we celebrate in this issue. Congratulations are in order!

We want to give a big shout out to our sister groups and volunteers who are working hard to make our village an ideal community. Special mention must be made of brother Slater Jeffrey, who is based in Atlanta, but has been devoting much time and resources in organizing and advocating for economic empowerment through small business development in Buxton/Friendship. He and his team recently pulled off an impressive exhibition of products and services grown and developed in the village. They deserve our utmost support and encouragement. Kudos!

We look forward to continuing the work for revitalization of our community in the New Year, and we hope you would join with us. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the success of our operation! To those of you who would like to come on board, you will be gladly welcome.
