The Government of Guyana has expressed an interest in having visa-free travel to Canada and Canadian High Commissioner Mark Berman said that the two governments are discussing this.

Dr Pauline Baird is a professor and author who wants to keep Guyanese creole alive and chief among her attributes is her storytelling skill, which she learned from her deceased mother, who was a consummate storyteller.
In fact, Megan Griffith-Baird did not just tell the stories she portrayed them in the way she dressed, which was always African styled, and when she walked through the streets of Buxton, East Coast Demerara, everyone knew her mission was keeping African culture alive. Why is it necessary for the US Ambassador, Her Excellency Sarah Ann Lynch, to again call for inclusion, long term growth for all nationals and legislation against corruption? Ambassador Lynch’s remarks on the Wilson Centre’s Plaza Centre podcast titled “Guyana’s ‘oil Rush” were reported by Demerara Waves on 9 November.
Ambassador Lynch is reported to have said: “It is an ethnically divided society and so they need to focus on inclusion and there have been many efforts to do so far but they will need to continue to do that at an increased pace.”
In relation to economic growth the Ambassador said: “…we are encouraging them to focus on efforts that will create sustainable growth for the entire country no matter ethnicity, no matter race, no matter gender, no matter geography…” This implies that such a focus does not exist. Continue reading

…NDIA said to be monitoring pumps, sluices
Kaieteur News – With sections of Georgetown knee-deep waters as result of heavy rains, the Ministry of Agriculture said that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has stepped up its monitoring of all pumps and sluices in the city. In a Press Release Tuesday evening the Ministry said following approximately four inches of rainfall recorded today and the anticipated high-intensity rainfall in the coming days.

Seen from a Caribbean perspective, the primary objective was to deliver with other vulnerable nations an agreement on ‘loss and damage’ through the creation of a mechanism that could provide the financing required to recover from extreme weather events. It was also about ensuring a continuing global commitment to what had been agreed at COP26 in relation to reducing carbon emissions and support for adaptation.
In the end, some progress was made. Agreement was reached at the eleventh hour to establish a loss and damage fund, although who will pay, how much, and what the criteria will be for any nation to qualify are for future discussion. Continue reading →
